Talk:Armor

The armor types here need flavor. A B C doesn't give the player any technical or real world feel.

I recommend changing them to something like

Ablative

Ballistic

Composite.

That would hold with the current naming convention/types.

Other possibilities include:

Steel Reactive Aluminum Iron Titanium Uranium Plastic Glass Ceramic Electrically Charged

  • The problem with these descriptors is that they don't fit the gameworld, and imply stuff that isn't accurate in either gameplay (i.e. Ballistic implies it is better suited against Ballistic weapons), or the tech level of gameworld (i.e. Ablative and Composite are well outside the tech of Evan (IMO)). Something like Performance/Matched = A, Standard = B, Scrap = C, would be closer, and would mesh with the supported ideas that a) A armor provides a benefit for fuel economy due to its better aerodynamics, and b) C armor being significantly heavier than B. --Wikiadmin 19:20, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

I can think of some better descriptors! Is this the proper forum for discussing it or would the actual forums be preferable?

For type A... I dunno. Chitin from giant mutant insects would be possible tech wise, but Bug Armor sounds so primitive For type B, Standard (while a bit dull) would be fine. For type C, you could use Improvised. I.e. armor plating or just junk metal re-purposed and bolted or welded on. That would account for it's bulk and lower cost.

I'm not so sure about the reduced tech in Evan where you have rockets and lasers, very high tech and finicky things to work on requiring very advanced materials and construction methods.

  • Here is fine for discussing what goes in the wiki, but for anything other than A, B, and C to make sense to players the official nomenclature would have to change, and for that the discussion would need to take place in the forums. As far as the high-tech stuff goes, there's an explanation for the Lasers/Heavy Lasers floating around the forums but it basically comes down to Developer thought they would be fun and added them before really thinking things through WRT to the tech level. Rockets aren't really all that sophisticated, especially the unguided ones we have in-game, but that is a discussion for the forums. :) --Wikiadmin 02:40, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
