This town relies mainly on its farms, which produce the bulk of the food for the entire continent. It has grown larger and faster than Elmsfield, and is a similarly safe place to live. The Death Racing leagues that now exist in all major towns were first established here, in 2035. The largest and most prestigious leagues remain here.

FIXME add info about characteristics of the maps around Somerset
Somerset is the town all players start in, and as a result, is the town with the most activity. The Race, Death Race, and Arena Combat leagues have most of their events in the Somerset area. Similarly, there will rarely be a time when there isn't a scouting group forming.
What all this activity means, especially all the player scouting, is that the NPC pirate gangs are usually kept under control. Rewards from successful scouting can be profitable, but is often limited to extremely common chassis and weapons.
There are many missions originating in Somerset, as well as terminating here, so making a living running missions to and from Somerset is certainly possible.
